The National Weather Service warned of coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents, with a flood advisory set to follow through Thursday evening.
Coastal Broward County is under a Coastal Flood Warning through 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, while a high rip current risk is in effect through the evening, according to the National Weather Service. NWS Miami said a Coastal Flood Advisory will follow from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, for coastal Broward and coastal Miami-Dade counties. The alerts describe hazards for the coastal areas named by the agency.
The warning calls for significant coastal flooding, while moderate coastal flooding is expected during the advisory, the weather service said. The agency warned that numerous roads may close and that low-lying property, including homes, businesses and some critical infrastructure, may be inundated. Some shoreline erosion is also expected, according to the notice. The listed impacts apply to the coastal areas covered by the alerts, not necessarily every part of either county.
The flood warning period ends at 8 p.m. Wednesday, when the advisory period begins, and the advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday, the NWS said. The agency also warned that dangerous rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The high rip current risk is listed through Wednesday evening. The notice names coastal Broward County and coastal Miami-Dade County as the affected areas.
