WESTON, Conn. -- Alex Peyreigne was sent off to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point on Long Island on Thursday. 

Alex, a 2011 Weston High School graduate, said on Tuesday he was nervous and excited about his trip. Sgt. Mike Ferullo of the Weston Police Department took a picture with Alex and his parents on Tuesday at the gazebo in front of town hall. Ferullo is a commanding officer in the U.S. Coast Guard for port security of Unit 305 in Virginia. 

Alex said he will be on dock for three weeks and that next July he will "jump around the world." He also plans to play lacrosse at the academy.
